![]() The results of the experiment demonstrated the typeface effect along with evaluations considering inter-letter spacing, letter height, and color contrast. Three letter weights of positive and negative contrast Clearview fonts (mixed-case) were compared to three Standard Highway Alphabets (mixed and all-uppercase). The glance legibility threshold, duration time, and the participants’ response accuracy were tested as measures of performance in Experiment 2. Experiment 2 developed a measured approach to simulate the phenomenon when drivers obtain sign information during a brief exposure and evaluate their glance legibility under certain conditions. The positive contrast Clearview font and Standard Highway Alphabets were compared, as well, to re-establish the baseline performance seen in other research. Three types of inter-letter spacing, three letter weights, and two letter heights of negative contrast Clearview fonts (mixed-case) were compared with three Standard Highway Alphabets fonts (mixed and all-uppercase). Experiment 1 determined the legibility distances of the Clearview Typeface System and the Standard Highway Alphabet during daytime and nighttime conditions. For this dissertation, two experiments were conducted – a field test (Experiment 1) and a laboratory experiment (Experiment 2). ![]() Glance legibility measures a driver’s ability to read a sign in a brief period of visual exposure. Legibility distance is defined as the maximum distance at which a driver is able to correctly read the sign. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of traffic sign typeface systems in regard to their legibility distances and glance legibility. To provide a solid basis for these assertions on the manual and other references, it is necessary to develop effective evaluation methods to support the transportation regulations and policies. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD) describes the desired sign design characteristics for sign use on highways including long visibility distances, large lettering and symbols and short legends for quick comprehension. To determine the effectiveness of signs, many factors can be taken into consideration. Therefore, the design, placement, operational effects, maintenance requirements, and uniformity of traffic signs should be considered carefully to maximize the effectiveness of these signs to fulfill drivers’ needs for traffic information in different driving environments. How to Check if Your Blades Need Sharpening You can identify damaged blades by checking for chips, cracks, and other visible signs of damage. Damaged blades can occur due to rust, wear and tear, or accidental damage. Dull blades can be sharpened and reused, while damaged blades will need to be replaced. Common problems include rust, dullness, and misalignment. Common Problems That Occur with Bladesīlades can become dull or damaged over time, resulting in uneven cuts and pulling on hair. The drive socket is the part that connects the blade to the clipper motor. The teeth are the sharp edges that cut through the hair, while the blade body is the flat metal piece that holds the teeth. Hair clipper blades consist of a few essential parts, including the teeth, blade body, and drive socket. They are ideal for cutting different hair lengths and styles, and they come in various sizes. They come in various sizes, ranging from 000 to 5, with 000 being the shortest and 5 being the longest.Īdjustable blades, on the other hand, come with an adjustable lever that allows you to change the length of the cut. Detachable blades are designed to be interchangeable and can be used with different types of clippers. The two main types of hair clipper blades are detachable blades and adjustable blades. Understanding these types of blades is crucial when it comes to maintaining your clippers and ensuring that they remain in good condition. Computational psychometrics describes the blend of the analytical tools from the machine learning (ML) arsenal with cutting edge work in theoretical psychometric research. The new discipline computational psychometrics ( von Davier, 2015, 2017) sits squarely in the intersection of these fields. Many of these innovative ideas are in the various fields associated with education, learning, and assessment. ![]() ![]() Recent advances in computing technology have given us the tools to realize many innovative ideas previously beyond our grasp. This could be said of the state of learning and assessment systems in the current era. In his quote Gibson alludes primarily to the fact that progress is simply the spread of what is niche to something that is ubiquitous and equitable. The fiction author William Gibson said, “The future is already here, it is just not very evenly distributed” ( Rosenberg, 1992). The education that students receive is then primarily tailored to these groups as a one size fits all approach rather than a personalized and adaptive experience. Students are grouped into various hierarchical aggregations such as classrooms, grades, and schools. This traditional education system has been in place with almost no perceptible change since the dawn of the previous century. Many of the characteristics of today's classrooms would be familiar to our great-grandparents: A teacher lecturing to students sitting in rows of organized desks The teacher instructing from a prepared lesson plan, and the students listening attentively. ![]() No waist belt, nor does it have any kind of weight transfer frame work, just a padded back. I like this pack for what it is, a simple day pack. Nice to find pack colors that a baby boomer can recognize and relate to! So many of the main pack manufacturers are catering to the younger generations with the bright fuchsias, neon yellows, lime greens, ad naseum. One other thing that sold me on this pack - the colors it comes in - they are all colors I know and recognize as rugged, outdoorsy colors. I have two Osprey’s that would outstrip this pack for comfortable back panel and carry, but then my dogs throwing stick, water bowl, and poop bags would be riding inside the pack right alongside my coats, shirt, etc. There are certainly more comfortable packs out there. The straps fit me very well, do not slip off my shoulders in fact I rarely use the sternum clip it comes with. Yes, as others have noted, the pack is stiff and so are the straps but they are more than comfortable enough for a day carry. I bend over to pick up sticks to throw for the dog and the pack hugs my back with no floppy movement. How does it carry? It is okay, seems to carry fairly high and tight on the back which is good for me. I won’t feel concerned tossing this pack down in the dirt and the rocks. The rubberized bottom is a nice touch and I like that the exterior will take a severe beating. ![]() Whatever the coating on the pack fabric it does a good job of keeping the water out, nary a drop inside. It rained pretty good today and I could see the water beading on the surface of the pack. Water bladders can be nice, but dogs aren’t interested in trickle down bite valves - they want their water now and bottled water can be an uncomfortable carry without side pockets. The one liter Nalgene holders on the side is what sold me on the pack. ![]() I bought the Foliage Green which looks to me like a faded olive drab color. My dog’s ball thrower, collapsible water dish, leash, and the occasional poop bag all ride on the outside of the pack, courtesy of those molle loops and elastic loop web dominators. Enough molle loops if you need to hang something on it, without overdoing it. I use it as an every day pack for the local park where my dog and I go. ![]() ![]() This app is pretty and works really good, but this is not for someone like myself who understands and uses the 3D Touch function heavily on iPhone.
